Random Beer Roundup - The Indiana Beer Week Edition

We had a question come in and we need your help! What brewery sold the first growler on Sunday? Let us know!

Folks, we have almost made it to Indiana Beer Week. There are a lot of great events going on for the week, and there are more being added daily, so be sure to check the calendar often. Tickets for next Saturday's Microbrewer's Festival are going fast, but for the time being, they are still available here.

Good luck to all those participating in the Brewers Cup this weekend! You are already winners in our book.

We hope you can make it out to support local beer this week! A couple of us will be out each night Sunday through Thursday to celebrate and we'd love for you to join us! We'll have some prizes and tickets to the festival to give away. You can find out where we are on twitter (#HBGPC) and Facebook during our nightly Indiana Beer Week pub crawls.

If you can't make it out for any of our pub crawls but still want a chance to win tickets to the festival, the Drink Indiana Facebook page has a photo contest going on. You can submit a photo (deadline is midnight on Wednesday, July 14th) that includes an Indiana brewery logo. Winners will be announced on Thursday, July 15th at 4:00 pm.

If there is something coming up that is not listed, we would love to hear about it. News, reviews, info, etc., to share for our next Random Beer Roundup can be submitted to hoosierbeergeek@gmail.com. Don't see your favorite craft beer establishment? Let them know you'd like to see them here! Work for an establishment that serves craft beer? We want to hear from you too!

Our Robust Porter aged in bourbon barrels from Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort Kentucky. This is the second time for beer in the barrels so instead of a strong bourbon aroma and flavor the Porter takes on more wood, vanillin and oak flavors from the barrel.

At the Bar

From Corrie at Goose the Market in Indianapolis:
Chicken Little, your barnyard mate has arrived. The sky is falling and it'sApocalypse Cow from the delicious doomsday-ers at Three Floyds. Tis the season for Imperial IPAs, but drink and be merry for this is one not to be missed.

Is it an indiscretion to hint that the Beatles' sunrise song might have something to do with Victory's Sunrise Weiss? Forgive me, little darling, it's been a long, cold, lonely winter.

Is Robin Hood the modern day St. Sebastian? Ward off the black plague--and even maybe this Hoosier summer heat--with a cold crock of Brouwerij Sterkens' St. Sebastiaan Golden. Yes, the saint is a golden tripel, but there's enough citrus and coriander in the nose and tart flavors on the tongue to keep it refreshing. Amen.

Psssst..we still have a couple bottles of Founders Devil Dancer...you can take 'em home or we'll chill them for you to to consume in our 75F cellar while listening--or dancing, you devil, you--to vinyl.

Carry Out

From Eric at 21st Amendment in Broad Ripple:

In addition to over 30 beers, finger foods will be provided by another local favorite, Trader's Point Creamery. We're trying to do our part to support Indiana Beer Week, so the tasting will be free of charge and all beers tasted at the event will be 10% off.

We also have a few new beers on our shelves this week: Three Floyds Apocalypse Cow: A massive DIPA with lactose added to give it a creaminess that balances the huge hop load.
